South Carolina Sprinkler Code (2019)

South Carolina requires that all sprinkler systems be properly inspected, tested, and maintained in accordance with NFPA 25 standards. This ensures that your system provides at least the same level of performance and protection as originally designed.

Fire sprinkler systems must adhere to strict inspection schedules:

  • Weekly: Inspection of control valves and gauges for pre-action, deluge, and dry sprinkler systems.

  • Monthly: Inspection of gauges and alarm valves for wet pipe sprinkler systems.

  • Quarterly: Inspection of water flow alarm devices, valve alarm devices, control valves, signal devices, hydraulic nameplates, and fire department connections.

  • Annually: Comprehensive system inspection, including pipework, fittings, sprinkler heads, and other components.

  • Every 5 years: Internal pipe inspection for blockages or obstructions.

Additional tests and component replacements are required for systems in harsh environments every five years. Dry sprinkler systems also require testing or replacement every ten years.

Georgia Code Requirements – Rule 120-3-19-.12

In Georgia, fire protection system inspections, testing, and maintenance must also align with NFPA 25, as adopted by the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner’s Rules and Regulations Chapter 120-3-3. Only licensed fire protection system inspectors, certificate of competency holders, or qualified representatives of the building owner are authorized to perform these services.
